Abraham joins the lab for the summer!
Abraham is joining the lab from Claremont McKenna College through UCSF's Summer Research Training Program. He's excited to begin working on an active avoidance experiment while gaining experience with new experimental techniques.
Jen joins the lab!
Jen joins the lab from New York City and is excited to learn about the neural correlates of anxiety and OCD while working in the lab.
Bridget joins the lab!
Bridget is joining the lab from the University of Texas at Austin. She is excited to learn about the neural circuit basis of fear and avoidance behaviors and their potential for advancing therapeutic options for patients with anxiety disorders.
Adrienne passes her qualifying exam
After two years as a student in the neuroscience program, Adrienne passed the exam that qualifies her as a PhD candidate in the Gunaydin lab. We celebrated with champagne and lots of bubbles!
Gwynne joins the lab!

Adrienne joins the lab from Stanford, CA and is excited to begin work on setting up the fiber photometry rig (and eventually get her first calcium signal)!
Lab presents at Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Confab
Our lab presented an overview of our research interests, questions, and preliminary data in the context of the diverse biohub community.
Addie joins the lab!
Addie joins the lab from Emory University and is very excited to learn optogenetics (and proper laser safety)!
Katherine is accepted to medical school
Katherine was accepted to the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine DO/MPH graduate program. Congratulations Katherine! She helped get the lab up and running and will be missed!
Argentina joins the lab!
Argentina joined the lab right on time to celebrate her 31st birthday by assembling her electrophysiology rig and learning how to combine electrophysiological recordings with optogenetics!
Lisa is named Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator
Lisa was named a Chan Zuckerberg Investigator as part of the first cohort of 47 faculty selected from over 700 applicants at UCSF, Stanford and Berkeley. This grant will provide the lab with five years of funding as well as the opportunity to collaborate with and use state-of-the-art research facilities at the Biohub, a non-profit research organization with the goal of developing novel technologies to transform biomedical research. It is funded by a philanthropic investment of $600 million by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and pediatrician Priscilla Chan. The Biohub is located directly adjacent to the UCSF Mission Bay campus.
Lisa receives a Weil Science Innovation Award
As part of a $185M gift from Joan and Sandy Weill, nine Innovation Awards were given to UCSF faculty to foster high-risk, high-reward research focused on finding new treatments for neuropsychiatric diseases. Read the UCSF press release here.
